War Records - Genealogy Sites

Most people researching their family history will find that at least one member of the family was in the armed forces, in particular in WW1 or 2 and, often, was in the casualty lists. There are numerous websites dedicated to the different theatres of war, to regiments, and so on. These are just a few of the ones that might help in the search for some of the ancestors.

This website is probably one of the most well used and useful websites when searching for a relative who was killed in battle. The searches and information are all free. The searches can be from fairly general dates and places to those that are much more specific. A list of relevant names, their rank, regiments etc. will follow a search. The names can be clicked on and details of their date of death and burial place will come up. There are frequently other personal details like age, next of kin, home etc., included. There are also associated pages that contain information on the cemeteries, maps etc. Downloadable is a commemorative certificate with a picture of the cemetery and the person's name and personal details.
